  Frequently Asked Questions
AIPP Accredited professional photographer

Are you a full time, professional photographer?

Yes I am. I have been shooting weddings professionally for over 15 years and this is how I feed the family. I am degree qualified (B. Visual Communications with major studies in Photography & Digital Imaging), I am a fully accredited member of the AIPP and regularly attend photography and business workshops to ensure I am up to date with the latest trends, equipment and techniques.

Do you have a studio?

Yes I do - I am much more than just a Facebook page! My studio is in beautiful Como in the Sutherland Shire and I see clients by appointment. Call me to arrange a booking: 0414 412 069.

Who will be my photographer on the day?

Me. Samantha Halpern.

Are you accredited and insured?

Yes, I am a proud, fully accredited member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) and have been for over 6 years. Like all professional photographers worth their salt, I also have public liability insurance.

I don't do posing! Can you shoot my wedding in a candid style?

Well that's great - I don't do posing either! I am happiest when I can shoot your day as it unfolds in front of me. I'm not one to "create" scenes because thats how I think your wedding should look. Your wedding looks like your wedding - no one elses. I prefer to "direct" you on the day to fulfill a composition or an idea I may have in my head. What you do with each other once I've directed you there is completely up to you. We'll be having so much fun that the laughs will come naturally.

dots

That leads me to my next question – What IS your style?

The studio's rich, artistic style combines a natural approach with a deliberately considered attention to detail, lighting and composition. I watch your story unfold and capture all its flavours: the quiet moments, stunning details, unique personalities and those show-stopping moments, of course. I won't run your wedding or ruin it with long set-ups or stiff poses. I also will get those classic shots that make any photography coverage complete.

Can we give you a shot list of photos we want?

You can, but I don't work off a shot list throughout the day. I work very candidly throughout the day so working off a list is not really my style. I prefer to be watching your story rather than a list. But, if there is a special photo you need with a guest at a specific time (Nan may be unwell and needs to leave straight after the ceremony for example), or something special you want photographed, definitely let me know.

How much time should I allow for location photography?

60 mins for one location, 90 mins for two. Also, allow travel time on either side of this.

What happens if Sam is sick on our wedding day?

I have never missed a wedding because of sickness or any other reason. I have even shot a wedding with a freshly broken collar bone. So if I am sick then I will still turn up. If for some reason God has other plans for me and I just can't make it, I will arrange for a photographer of similar experience, style and ability to cover your event. I am a member of the AIPP and have a large pool of photography colleagues. Just one of the advantages of being in the industry for over 15 years – I've got friends.

How much does it cost?

Ahhh...the $64M question. My packages are a build-your-own style so you maintain control of the budget and the items you really want in your package. I do have "bundles" available and I specialise in crafting a custom packages for each couple.

dots

Why do your packages come with a proof album? Isn't that a bit old school?

Perhaps, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to hand over nothing tangible but a disc after all your hard earned has been invested in my photographic skills (which extends WAY past just the shooting of your wedding day). Almost anyone can take a photo and make it look a million $$$ on screen, but a true professional will know how to capture an image and transpose it to print and in the process, give your images a whole new magic that you never expected. But, if you don't need a proof album, I do have a disc only option available. But think about this - if you don't have any proofs, prints or an album to showcase your beautiful wedding images, what are you going to do when Nan askes to see your photos? Plonk her in front of the computer? What will your Grandchildren look at? That's why I include at least a proof album in your package.

dots

Do you edit the photos?

Yes. I edit out the doubles, the blinky eyes and shots that generally don't make the cut. That includes the out of focus ones - I don't care how good a shot it is! All of your images are colour & exposure corrected, then instead of giving you 1000's of images for you to wade through, only the very best images are printed as 6x4" proofs and presented in your proof album. For example, a 10hr package includes approx. 350 proofs in your album.

dots

How long does it take to get my photos?

Your web gallery will be online within 10 days of your wedding. Your proof album and/or your hi-res images will be ready for collection approx 4 weeks after your wedding day.

dots

Do I need a second photographer?

Yes and no. I have been shooting long enough not to NEED a 2nd photographer in case I miss something. Not much gets past me! Two photographers can be very intimidating, so if that's not your scene, rest assured that I have the experience to anticipate those special moments and you won't be missing anything. However, I do like having a 2nd shooter for larger, longer and weddings where there may be multiple locations with lots of travel in-between. If you book a Premier album, a 2nd photographer will be there if I have one available. If you desperately would like a 2nd shooter, it's no trouble to book one in at an additional charge.

dots

Should we provide you with a meal at the reception?

Yes! Wedding days are very long days, so a service meal at the reception is required and greatly appreciated. Fainting photographers during Dad's speech is not usually a good look.

dots

Do you shoot other things?

Yes! I'm available for your family portrait, newborn or maternity portrait. I also specialise in event photography which includes your 2yr olds birthday extravaganza or a corporate conference, Christmas party or awards evening.

I work with a very limited number of amazing, super fun clients each year. Jump on the Bat-phone and call me on 0414 412 069, or email me if you'd like to be one of them.
